ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate plasma contents of ?-endorphin(?-EP) in patients with coronary heart disease(CHD) and study the relationship between myocardial function and ?-EP in these patients. Methods:At 12,24,48,and 96 h and 7 d after episode, the plasma levels of ?-EP were measured by immunoradiometric assay(IRMA).The left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) was measured with echocardiography and the class of cardiac function was assessed according to NYHA. Results:The plasma levels of ?-EP in 58 patients with CHD were higher than those in 20 healthy subjects(P

ABSTRACT

砄bjective: To observe whether substance P(SP), calcitonin gene related peptide(CGRP), vasoactive intestinal polypeptide(VIP),? endorphin(? EP) are related to the pathogenesis of trigeminal neuralgia. Methods: During the attacks of trigeminal neuralgia, SP,CGRP,VIP,? EP in plasma from both external jugular and cubital fossa vein blood ipsilateral to the pain were assessed by sensitive radioimmunoassay in 16 ptients and 10 health controls, after operations the venous blood from the external jugular vein of the patients was sampled again; the external jugular vein blood of normal volunteers was collected as control. SP like and CGRP like immunoreactive positive granules of pain and painless branches were labelled using ABC immunohistochemistry methods; quantitative analysis was performed using HPIAS 1000 system. Results: During the attacks of trigeminal neuralgia, the levels of SP,CGRP,VIP in the external jugular vein blood were significantly higher than those in the cubital fossa vein blood, postoperative external jugular vein blood and the external jugular vein blood of normal volunteers. The plasma levels of ? EP in patients with trigeminal neuralgia were significantly lower than that in normal volunteers. The number and area of SP like ,CGRP like immunoreactive positive granules in the pain branches was much more and larger than those in the painless branches . Conclusion: Abnormal synthesis and release of neuropeptides in patients may be related to the pathogenesis of trigeminal neuralgia.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the levels of umbilical plasma ?-endorphin (?-EP) in normal and abnormal pregnancy and the influencing factors. Methods The umbilical plasma ?-EP concentrations of 95 cases were measured by radioimmunoassay. Linear regression was used to find out the influencing factors of ?-EP including: neonatal gestational age, gender, birth weight, mode of delivery, maternal hypertension, maternal diabetes, premature rupture of membranes(PROM) and fetal distress. The subjects were divided into two groups: healthy term newborns and preterm neonates. Results Gestational age, mode of delivery and fetal distress were important factors influencing umbilical blood ?-EP production (P

ABSTRACT

Purpose:To study the effects on T lymphocyte subtypes with chemical splanchic denervation for patients with pancreatic carcinoma and intractable pain.Methods:32 cases with advanced pancreatic carcinoma accepted chemical splanchic denervation-pure alcohol injection around celiac ganglion guided by B US to relieve the severe pain. The fasting peripheral blood concentration of CD + 3 ,CD + 4 ,CD + 8 and ? endorphin were determined before treatment ,3rd,7th,15th and 30th day after therapy. 38 healthy persons were taken as control group. Results:The percentage of CD + 3 ,CD + 4 ,CD 8+ cell were apparently decreased in patients with pancreatic carcinoma comparing with control group( P

ABSTRACT

AIM:To investigate the role of Shengmai Powder (Radix Ginseng, Radix Ophiopogonis and Fructus schisandrae) (SMP) in treatmen of hemorrhagic shock in rabbits. METHODS: The concentrations of endothelin (ET), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), ? endorphin (? EP) and nitric oxide (NO), the activity of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in plasma were respectively tested by different biochemical assays in hemorrhagic shock in rabbits. RESULTS: SMP could obviously decrease the ET,TNF,NO level and NOS activity ( P

ABSTRACT

AIM To study the analgesic effects of melatonin (MT) and related mechanisms. METHODS The threshold was measured by hot plate test.? endorphine (? EP) was determined by radioimmunoassay (RIA). RESULTS MT (40~160 mg?kg -1 , ip) had significant dose and time dependent analgesic effects in hot plate test. The analgesia was also induced by injection (icv) of MT (0 25 mg?kg -1 ). The day night rhythm of pain threshold was not observed in 7 d after pinealectomy, but it appeared in sham operated rats.? EP content of rat brain measured by RIA indicated that the level of ? EP in hypothalamus and pituitary decreased significantly 1 h after ip MT(100 mg?kg -1 ). The analgesic effect of MT was attenuated by pretreatment of reserpine (3 mg?kg -1 ip) or ? receptor blocker phentolamine (100 mg?kg -1 , sc). CaCl 2 (230 mg?kg -1 ) antagonized the analgesic effect of MT, and EGTA and verapamil significantly enhanced the analgesia of MT in the same situation. CONCLUSION MT has significant analgesic action which may be related to opiate system, adrenergic system, and Ca 2+ content.
